Whangarei District Airport

Whangarei District Airport

TERMINAL BUILDING

The Airport Terminal building opens each day about 1 hour before the 1st scheduled airline departure. It will close about 30 minutes after the last arrival. It is modern and air-conditioned. It provides a toilet for the disabled with a baby changing table.

A Café (Skyline Airport Cafe) operates within the terminal building.
Opening hours are generally at least 1 hour before the 1st Air New Zealand of the day to just after the last departing flight. The cafe will be open every day except perhaps, Christmas day. Dawn and her team swerve up excellent coffee and food daily.

The Skyline Cafe is very popular and many people come to the airport just for the café.

Please remember that parking for 1 hour is free. - After that, it is just $1.00 per hour.

DISABLED ACCESS

Whangarei Airport has four car park spaces reserved for the disabled immediately to the right of the terminal building (as you arrive). These spaces are immediately beyond the building when driving past the terminal building.

Disable access toilet facilities are provided inside. The terminal is all single level so getting about inside is easy. Air NZ have ramps available for boarding aircraft and these are now routinely used but do advise staff if you need assistance boarding.

Free Wi-fi

Whangarei Airport has free high speed WI-FI available at the terminal building and immediate surrounds. We thank Northpower Fibre for providing this service.

Bag Claim

Bag claim is to the right as you enter the terminal from the aircraft. It is in an area outside under a car port type structure. When the trolleys with bags on are safely parked in this area the two automatic doors will open to allow passengers to self claim direct off the trolleys. There is an exit from terminal only door right beside this area.

Parking

Car parking is provided and it is well lit. CCTV records 24 hours. 1 hour of parking is free but a charge applies after that. See the Car Parking Tab for more detailed information.

Parking of less than 1 hour will remain free.

While we don’t have a time limit, we would consider more than a month excessive and will investigate any car left longer than that time and may choose to remove it from the car park at owners expense. We would expect to be consulted in advance for such long term parking and an arrangement can be made.

If driving directly to the car park, an entrance just beyond the main entrance allow access direct into the car park, without having to negotiate past the Terminal frontage.

Full time on site security is not provided but CCTV cameras are in use and we do have random timed security patrols during the night.

A drop off zone is situated just outside the terminal building on opposite side of road to the departures entrance to assist with unloading of cars. Do not leave a car un-attended at all in the drop zone nor use the space to wait for arriving passengers. There isn’t enough room for everyone to park here.

Rental car companies have their own car park just off to the left as you approach the terminal building (clearly sign posted). If these are full, park in the main car park.

Secure parking is offered by Lock n Fly. Simply place your keys in one of their envelopes  with your return instructions and post the envelope in the Drop Box in the Terminal Building. The vehicle will be locked away in a fenced compound until your return, where you will find the vehicle awaiting you in the Lock and Fly pick up zone. Ph: 09 436 4081

Lock and Fly clients will need to drop and collect cars in the designated area which is down the road to the left of the terminal building (Dakota Lane). (There is signage). The main car park will incur extra charges, so using the designated drop zone avoids complications with the service.
